While everybody is looking at "Restoring Our Rivers" a bill that passed in Parliament in 2023 the Government has been orchestrating a far more dangerous plan while we weren't watching. I doubt you will be too concerned about the Government buy-backs once you wrap your head around 'Reconnecting River Country' Please find the link below to the Government 's web site for reference and to check our facts if you like.
What's the Problem
If the Government proceeds with this plan river flat country along the Murrumbidgee and Murray River will instantly loose value, who would want to buy a property that has regular flooding, not due to a weather event, not because of mismanagement of dam capacity but because the Government want to. They will then make landholders a onetime offer for an easement on their land (using that reduced value), this gives them the right to purposefully run water across the fertile river flats which are used to produce food for humans and animals. This is in the name of the environment.
Sign a contract with the Government at the country's peril. Your property rights are gone for perpetuity (that means FOREVER).

Currently they need to change legislation that states that if the Government do damage they have to pay for it & WaterNSW have a licence that requires them to mitigate flood damage. Reconnecting Rivers plan to do damage to private property & the opposite of flood mitigation. They plan on flooding. They want higher levels and longer durations.
